It’s Groundhog Day here in Pie Town as I wake up and do the same routine – coffee/food/WiFi/food/blister care/check tent replacement part status/rinse/repeat! I thought I would write an update since I am still here.
As you may remember, the tension struts in the top of my Zpacks Plexamid tent broke the day before hiking into Pie Town. I managed to get in touch with Zpacks and they mailed a new set of struts (new, improved design) to me here. They arrived today, but as the post office is closed, I will pick them up and install them tomorrow. That means I should be able to hike out tomorrow. I have been nursing some blisters and one is still s little raw, so there is a slight chance I will delay departure until Sunday, depending on how it does drying out. I want to make sure it will be ready to be taped up and hiked on.
I’ve been killing time this week looking around Pie Town (not much to see!), and eating lots of food and pies at its various cafes. In my opinion, the Pie Town Cafe has the best food, prices, AND pie in town! I’ve visited all of the cafes…. If I stay any longer I’m going to have to run for office! Meet Hungry Cat – the new Mayor of Pie Town. Free food for all hikers! (My running platform)
I’m looking forward to Grants where I will pick up a new pair of shoes and socks. I already blew through one of my darn toughs, and my Altra Olympus are overdue for replacement.
My spirits are good and I’ve been meeting new hikers that have cycled through as I’ve stayed here. Nita’s Toaster House has been a wonderful place to rest as I’ve sorted through my various logistics. I’m incredibly antsy to hike out, but I also know how important it is to make sure my feet are ready to go.
I will drop an update again soon as I work my way into northern New Mexico!
